About the event
Join us for an evening exploring hip hop in Ireland through the acclaimed documentary Ó Bhéal (watch the trailer here - HERE) with special live performances following. Presented in partnership with Tri-City Hip Hop.
Ó Bhéal is a cinematic exploration of the rise of hip-hop and electronic artists in Ireland, embracing oral traditions of folklore, ancient poetry and sean-nós singing to create a new fusion sound, a culture clash through music. An ensemble piece, featuring Irish-language rappers Seán ‘Mory’ Ó Muirgheasa and Oisín Mac, producer and multi-instrumentalist Fehdah, and Limerick rapper Strange Boy.
This beautiful black-and-white film delves deep into these four artists’ processes and how they are breaking new ground in Irish music. Through insightful interviews, intimate portrayals of the creative process of each artist as they work on tracks in studio, and visceral live performances, Ó Bhéal tells the story of a moment in time in the Irish musical landscape.
Bar and concession available.
This event is PWYC (pay-what-you-can) to make culture accessible to all and support the IRL Festival.

Bg5ive
Born and raised in Tuam, County Galway, in the west of Ireland, Bg5ive is an upcoming rapper now based in Toronto, Canada. After leaving university, unsure of what to do next, Bg5ive moved to Toronto, Canada, to experience another part of the world in the hopes of figuring out his next move.
While living in Canada, Bg5ive made contacts who were involved in music. While initially hesitant about accepting their offers to try it out, after experiencing some personal and legal issues, Bg5ive turned to music as an outlet to vent, and to give him something to focus on and has not looked back since.
While initially focused on being in the booth, Bg5ive gained an interest in being behind the boards and when the Covid pandemic began, he focused his attention on not only honing his rapping skills but also on learning how to mix and master for other artists, which provided extra income during this difficult
period.
Since arriving on the scene in 2020, he has released several singles, an EP and two full mixtapes and has received Spotify editorial support (“Irish Rap & Drill 2022” & “Rap IE” playlists), helping to establish him as one to watch on the underground rap scene. Bg5ive blends elements of traditional hip-hop, rap, and trap music together to form an eclectic sound, which he combines with the melodically tinged flow, clever word play and an on-point storytelling ability to deliver a fresh, unapologetic product to his listeners, and he has no plans on slowing down.
